Compass overhauling and maintenance

A Magnetic compass needs an annual inspection and every two years a deviation adjustment. However during his service it’s possible that some part of the body suffer an excess of heat due to a bad protective clothing (i.e. canvas cover), then a bubble might come. Normally bubbles comes when expansive membrane or others parts loss his watertight quality. Or maybe magnetic system unit inside the bowl can lost his watertight and produce a bad behaviour of the compass card being deflected horizontally.
